Its Raining Cupcakes Reveiw

March 12, 2010 by · 6 Comments · Uncategorized

When a new book comes in my classroom my feelings are excited. Books can make you feel happy, sad, excited and determined to read more. That is how i felt with “Its Raining Cupcakes” A book is different in the classroom than in a library because you know who is reading a book you’ve read or are reading and can talk to them about what they think and what you  predict will happen next.  Spoiling is a very bad thing to do, so I will try not to spoil the book.

” It’s Raining Cupcakes” is about a girl named Isabel who wants to go somewhere  other than her small town in Oregon.Isabel’s mom loves baking cupcakes and wants to open a cupcake shop. Isabel finds out about a baking contest. If Isabel wins she gets to go to New York! She wants to create something of  her own while her mom wants her to create a cupcake recipe.Isabel’s best friend (sophie) who is at camp is also in the contest so isabel has a real competition. Will Isabel win or will Sophie?

You could be inspired by the authors choice of chapter titles because each name is a cupcake flavor. Above the chapter titles is a picture of a cupcake. For example chapter 1 is called “red velvet cupcakes”. Above that is a picture of a cupcake with pink frosting, white icing and something green on the top.

From my opinion my favorite parts are when Isabel writes in her notebook. Sometimes Isabel writes things that may be hard to understand so I recommend to read them over. You should pay close attention to those parts.

Isabel is going through lots of situations. Her mom is planing to move and open a cupcake shop. She also is worrying about a contest she enters. Last Isabel misses her friend who has left to camp for 3 weeks.I am like Isabel for 2 reasons,1 I have a spelling bee that I am worried about. 2 my sister is away.

The Time Ana Left

I woke up not knowing how early it was and when I looked at the clock it was already 6:15.i got out of bed and slowly made my way to where my mom was in the porch. I sat down next to my mom. “Good morning”.  “How do you feel about Ana going to college?” My mom asked me as she put her hand behind my back.  “I’m really sad.” “She won’t be gone for long, she’ll be back in three months.”  “That’s a pretty long time.”  “Why don’t you try to think of fun times you’ve had with Ana.”

“Ana, do you want to come stay in my room for the night since you’re leaving tomorrow?”  “I’d love to.”  I was so excited I ran to her room to get her sheets. I brought the sheets into my room and put them on my bed because I wanted her to sleep in my bed.  I set up my sheets on the floor and put on my pajamas.  Ana walked in wearing her pajamas, “You’re sleeping on the floor?”  “Yeah, you won’t get your normal bed at college, you can sleep in my bed tonight.”  We started thinking about the crazy times.  “Remember the time we had a picnic with John Paul and halfway through the picnic we chased each other around the house pretending he was the bad guy from that movie?”  “That was really fun.” I said laughing.  “I’m really going to miss you while I’m gone.”  “Will you write to me?”  “Of course, you are so cute!”

I slowly walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table.  Ana was already in the kitchen getting the cereal and the bowl.  “Good morning Bells, how are you feeling?” I looked down at the table and put my hands over my eyes.  I mumbled, “I don’t want you to leave.”  “I’ll be back soon.” Do you remember the time we had the picnic?”  “Yeah, that was really fun.”

Ana was making the sandwiches and I got the drinks.  We looked all around the house for a basket until we found one.  We packed the lunch in the basket and went downstairs to get our shoes on.  “Ana, look it’s raining!”  She came over to look out the window. “Do you want to save it for another day?”  “No, this was our plan, let’s find somewhere else to do it.”  We took off our shoes and walked into the kitchen.  “Do want to want to have it on the floor?”  “It’s better than nothing.”

I was on the couch in front of the door when Ana came down the stairs with all three of her suitcases. As soon as I saw her I went up to help her with one of her suitcases.  After the suitcases were in the car I gave her a really, really big hug.  “Can you get my graduation tassel from my car?”  I walked over to the car to try to open the door but it was locked.  I asked my mom for the keys.  “No, not now, there’s no time we need to go.”  I ran over to Ana to give her one last hug.  Ana kneeled down she put her arms out and I ran into them.  She gave me a kiss, “I’ll write letters to you.”  “I’m going to miss you saying goodbye in the mornings because you’re the only one who does.  I’ll miss your singing around the house and your help with my homework.”  I said as squeezed her tighter.  “It’s okay, I’ll call you, Bells.”

When the car was out of sight I ran into the house and up to my bedroom.  I went on my bed I noticed I was on her sheets.  It made me really sad to think about the mornings without her coming in and giving me a kiss, whispering goodbye before she leaves for school.  “Maybe three months won’t be that long.”
